As the most watched sport outside the World Cup and the Olympic Games, Formula 1 offers the perfect platform to demonstrate technological expertise as well as giving a motivating focus to Renault's worldwide workforce.

When we returned to the F1 fray in 2002, we talked about being "100% Renault". That is no idle boast as the Renault F1 Team is one of only three constructors out of ten to build both chassis and engine "in-house": the chassis are produced by a team of 450 near the Oxfordshire village of Enstone in the UK, while a further 300 people work on the F1 engines at Viry-Châtillon, just south of the French capital. That first season exceeded our expectations as we finished a comfortable fourth in the Constructors' championship.

Last year, we repeated that feat, but with some significant differences, namely taking our first pole position and recording our first win since the return. Nothing new for Renault of course, as we won the first ever race classified as a Grand Prix back in 1906, as well as running our own team from 1977 to 1985, pioneering turbocharging and the V10 configuration in F1. As an engine supplier to other teams we won 11 World Titles between 1989 and 1997: 6 Constructors' and 5 Drivers'.

We plan to improve still further this year, thanks to the talents of Jarno Trulli and Fernando Alonso, ably assisted by third driver Franck Montagny. At their disposal is one of the most competitive cars in the 2004 World Championship, the R24, powered by the all-new RS24 V10 engine. After four rounds of the championship, the team lies second in the Constructors' Championship, and with the most equally-matched driver pairing on the grid separated by just one point in the Drivers' race. So far, 100% reliability has been a crucial weapon, and further planned improvements could make the car into a race winner before season's end.

With the backing of the world's fourth-largest automotive group, genuine racing pedigree and cutting-edge technology, the Renault F1 Team has the determination to go all the way. We look forward to welcoming the winner of this prestigious competition to the team in September; it will be a case of hang on tight for the ride...
